Factual Analysis: Ignoring War Crimes By The Israeli Government
Israel engaging in “state sponsored terrorism” with typical arrogance and wickedness

Volume 10 · No. 1
Web Posted: July 2002

Once again, more innocent Palestinian civilians killed at the hands of the Israeli government.

Using F-16s manufactured by the American company Lockheed Martin, Israeli Defense forces launched missile attacks aimed at killing a senior official of Hamas.
The attack, and subsequent killing of innocent non-combatants comes at a time of relative quiet in the Gaza Strip while the movement toward peacekeeping negotiations is increasing.

Predictably, the American media is extremely one-sided in their coverage of this event, focusing more on the fact that Israel was attempting to assassinate a Hamas official who was responsible for attacks on Israeli citizens, while casually glazing over the fact that innocent  Palestinian women, children and small babies were killed.

American politicians are strangely (or not so strangely) quiet and those who are commenting are guarded in their statements.

The Truth Establishment Institute finds these military exploits by the Israeli Defense Force reprehensible however we are not surprised by their actions.

AlBawaba

Israeli government officials targeted Salah Shehadah  commander of Hamas' Izz el-Din al-Qassam Brigades.
He was killed, however the casualty list and list of those injured is growing in what appears to be an extremely heavy-handed assault.

According to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) the list of dead included two babies, ages 18 months and 2 months, five children between the ages of 3-5, an 11-year old, and several adults.  The attack killed 15 and injured over 150 and dozens more are trapped in the rubble.

TEI News Points Analysis:
An immediate and wide-ranging chorus of disapproval was heard in objection to the actions of the Israelis.

Here is a quick sampling of news sources across the globe:

"This is a crime. No normal-minded, conscientious and feeling person could imagine such a massacre," Palestinian President Yasser Arafat told reporters at his West Bank compound in Ramallah. (Al-Bawaba)

Palestinian cabinet minister Saeb Erekat told the BBC: "This is Sharon's effort to torpedo any effort to revive the peace process."
Earlier, he denounced the raid as a "despicable and cowardly act." "We need to break this vicious cycle by giving efforts to put the
peace process back on track the chance it deserves," Erakat told CNN.

"I strongly condemn the death of innocent civilians in last night's attack against Gaza," EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said in a statement. (MSNBC)

SHARON SPEAKS WORDS OF INSINCERITY AND INSENSITIVITY

We find it astonishing that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon would state that they had “no interest in harming civilians” however the Israeli Defense Force, using F-16s aimed a powerful missile into a densely packed residential neighborhood at night.  Such actions ensured that there would be civilian casualties. Certainly their military tacticians are skilled and competent enough to avoid these senseless and unnecessary civilian casualties if it truly was there desire to do so.

A Palestinian police officer who lives near the site of the bombing told MSNBC that he saw the missile streaking across the sky and then heard a huge  explosion. “I fell out of my bed, and I found myself a minute later covered in dust and stones and [heard] the sounds of my children screaming and crying.”

This blatant disregard for human life shows that their hearts and minds of the Israeli government are not on the side of the peacemakers and those who want to bring an end to the carnage that is taking place in the land of disputed territory.

Speaking on Arab television, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, Hamas spiritual leader said, “This massacre perpetrated by Israel tonight is not something we can react to with words. We will answer this act with actions.”

It is interesting to note that while Israel says with words that they want peace their actions speak volumes with regards to their plan for systematic genocidal elimination of the Palestinian people.

Those interested in justice must speak out against this “state sponsored terrorism” calling upon Israel to act consistently with international and humanitarian law and encouraging a strong response from the American government in disavowing these types of attacks, that are becoming more numerous as the  conflict in the Middle East continues.

The bloodshed will not end and Ariel Sharon and the Israeli government are to blame.
