ASHAHED M. MUHAMMAD
TRUTH ESTABLISHMENT INSTITUTE

As a journalist, author and veteran organizer, Ashahed is one of the most influential ideologues and strategists within today’s contemporary and progressive activist scene.

Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1971 and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Ashahed, at a young age was initiated into the liberation struggle by his mother, who enrolled him in Dr. Haki Mahdubuti's independent school, The Institute of Positive Education (IPE).

He is the Executive Director of the Truth Establishment Institute and Assistant Editor of The Final Call the most widely circulated independent Black weekly in the United States.

Ashahed has quickly established himself as a leading interviewer whose sharp perspective and candid thought provoking questions have made him a primary interviewer of choice for scholars, politicians, entertainers and activists interested in presenting their views to the world.

He has contributed articles that have appeared in numerous and varied print and online publications such as BlackElectorate.com, PoliticalSwagger.com, Mathaba.net and DissidentVoice.org.

His works span such diverse issues as third party politics, the cultural reality of hip-hop, the various conflicts in the Middle East, and the use of technology to effectively spread information throughout underrepresented populations.

His interviews and writings are widely read by those looking for balanced information and alternative viewpoints. As a member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and his work through the National Newspaper Publisher's Association (NNPA) Ashahed's writings have appeared in close to 200 Black newspapers across the country.  His popular blog "Take Another Look" and column by the same name are also widely read.

He was one of only 10 journalists chosen by New America Media the country's first and largest national collaboration of 2,000 ethnic news organizations, to blog and report on the 2008 Democratic National Convention for electorates of color across the country. Based in Chicago, Ashahed wrote extensively on the historic presidential campaign of Barack H. Obama and traveled to Geneva, Switzerland  in April of 2009 to cover the UN's Durban Review Conference Against Racism where he interviewed ambassadors and conference participants from across the globe.

Ashahed acts as a consultant to numerous student leaders and organizations across the United States and abroad as a result of his experience and organizational skill. He is also a key adviser to many leaders and organizations within the Black liberation movement as well as many online media outlets.

He has been heard on CSPAN and National Public Radio. He has been interviewed for works appearing on such media outlets as MSNBC.com, BlackEnterprise.com and in prominent newspapers such as USAToday and the Washington Post. He is also a frequent radio commentator on various current affairs shows nationwide.

Ashahed contributed to Afrocentric scholar Chike Akua's book titled "A Kwanzaa Awakening" by examining the African-American Kwanzaa holiday, its principles and their correlation to principles found in the Qur’an -- the Islamic book of scripture.

His controversial best-selling book titled
The Synagogue of Satan (2005) deals with the attack on Black scholarship and research, the ideological strategies of the influential Neoconservative movement, the Israeli lobby and its effect on American foreign policy.
